Case Studies by Project
Throughout my time at the museum, I've had the opportunity to lead many different projects and initiatives that utilized a range of media and applications of my pr and marketing skills.
I've outlined the main ideas and applications of some of my favorite projects below.
Amazing Elf Adventure
2020
The Muncie Children’s Museum hosts an annual, holiday-themed event for families in the East Central Indiana community, involving a scavenger hunt through themed rooms at the Museum. However, with the covid-19 pandemic still affecting the community and new, stricter, guidelines in place, the museum had decided to forgo any in-person activities and develop an online-based programming for the event. Their goal was to increase overall engagement on social media through this program while continuing to keep the event alive and the community aware of and involved with it.
I proposed and led an online scavenger hunt program, in which we posted 2 videos a week with 2 of our museum elves helping children find a hidden stuffed elf in the frame. This was coupled with an initiative that we called "Take-Home Elf Kits," in which the public could order a kit online that included some of the usual prizes and candy that kids would recieve in the maze as well as a personalized elf video from our museum elves. We also partnered with another local organization to bring a socially-distanced experience to the community, in which we hid a number of elves in the windows of businesses downtown.
Between our diverse efforts to reach our community, we found that not only was the program successful, but that we had developed a starting point for future initiatives and partnerships to accompany our original program.

When Covid-19 shut down the museum for in-person visitors, we launched a plan for online programming that included 2 weekly videos and interactive content posted to our Facebook page. I was responsible for compiling, editing, and promoting each program. These included:
-
Member Monday, in which we posted pictures that highlighted families who belonged to our membership program and what they had been doing during their time in quarantine.
-
Wild Wednesday, in which we posted a video of our museum staff showcasing our museum animals.
-
Fun Fact Friday, in which I created a graphic post that featured interesting facts about different topics that normally coincided with the season, holiday, or social times.
-
Science Saturday, in which we posted a video hosted by a range of people from the Muncie community and the museum family that gave instructions on how to perform different science experiments and activities.
-
Minute to Win It Challenge, in which videos hosted by our museum staff participating in short games/competitions and encouraged our followers to participate.
I launched our youtube channel as a hub for all of the content in December 2020 and
continue to post on it today.

Day of Play

In September 2020, we hosted a virtual fundraising activity for the museum called Day of Play. Over the course of six days, families had the chance to complete a list of 10 challenges–both fun and educational–that took participants all over the Muncie area as well as bringing the museum right to their home.
We kicked off the event via Facebook live and then distributed the clues and materials necessary through a drive-up format. We then tracked their participation through a personalized Facebook group where we also posted hints and other ideas to encourage conversation and participation among members. I developed the logo design, t-shirt design, press materials, and social media strategy, as well as helped to develop and execute ideas for the planning of the actual event as well as how to reach out to those in our community. The event was a great success and we plan to host events of a similar format 2 times a year from now on.

Activity Kits
In June 2020, the museum began developing plans to develop and distribute activity kits for families to pick up for free that included instructions and materials for at-home crafts and activities.
I was asked to develop the instructional flyers for each theme. My goal in developing the flyers was to present an easy to read flyer that was also vibrant and almost interactive. Each flyer was double-sided with activities for one theme on each side. Below is a gallery of each flyer. We distributed the first set of kits in Fall 2020 and the second set in Spring 2021.
